Why the differences in the work force between men and women such as the pay gap attack women's personal freedom to have equality Image found via USCampaign       The United States is considered to be one of the few countries created through   diversity  and strives to allow people to have freedom and unity. Just like every other  forming nation, it has taken several years for people to see eye to eye with one another in order to become as equal possible. However, it has been several decades since the United States was founded and there are still major differences between men and women such as the pay gap in the workforce. Abortion

Image
Do restrictions on abortions go against one's rights and personal freedom?  Image found via DaytonNewsDaily       Everybody in their lifetime have to make choices on a daily basis. Some are as simple as figuring out what to wear and others are more difficult like choosing a major in college. However, some choices other people make in their lives are often limited by a higher power. For example, same sex marriage was only legalized across all fifty states just three years ago. Marriage is something many people dream of and is something that is memorable and special. Members of the Lgbtq+ community did not even have the choice and because of this many did not get to experience this special ceremony before the legalization. Being denied of marrying who you choose because of sexual orientation was seen as a personal freedom attack against the Lgbtq+ community. Another major ongoing topic that is concerning certain groups in America is abortion and whether ...

Analyzing a Gun Control Ad

Ads Aiming to Enforce Stricter Gun Control are Increasing  Image found via iStock    The ongoing debate on whether gun control is necessary in this country is still continuing as countless lives are being taken by the hands of violent individuals. A law that was meant to allow people to protect themselves from harm has quickly backfired. The amount of mass shootings and massacres occurring the United States seems to only get worse and worse. However, there is always going to be two sides to an argument. Some people strongly believe that if we change and enforce stricter gun laws they will be giving up their freedom. Others think that by enforcing these laws the rate of mass shootings will go down and overall gun violence will be decreased. There is no sure solution to a tremendous problem as this one but in the meantime political ads for gun reform have been released more and more over the years.  Image by Floyd Russ via AdWeek   This image d...

New Offensive Editorial Cartoon of Serena Williams  Image by Alex Pantling via GettyImages   A recent tennis match between one of the most well known and influential tennis players, Serena Williams, versus another upcoming player, Naomi Osaka, left viewers everywhere outraged and confused. After receiving  multiple penalties for William's performance, many of which she and a majority of people watching felt were unfair and uncalled for, Williams quickly voiced her frustrations to the game's umpire, Carlos Ramos. After going back and forth with Ramos, the penalties ultimately cost Williams a game. This was a major loss for Williams and she went on and  described her game experience as sexist and discriminatory . However, some people disagreed with Williams' comments and went on to mock and harass  her through social media. An editorial cartoon even came out by Mark Knight depicting Serena in a racially offensive manner.  Image by Mark Knight...

The Differences between Informal and Formal Communication

Image
What makes informal and formal communication different? Why is this important? Image by Bhanney1 via Tes.com Human beings are one of the most social creatures on planet Earth. In order to survive, we have created multiple ways of communication to express what we need, how we feel, what we are thinking, etc. We went from drawing images onto cave walls to having access to cell phones and being able to talk to anyone in the world at anytime. There are two major types of communication, informal and formal. Formal communication is a way to speak with others in a professional manner. Whether you are speaking with a coworker or a professor, formal communication should be used to be respectful. Informal communication is the most commonly used and it is described as a casual way of speaking to others. An example of this would be using slang words with a friend or family member. Although communicating with others can be done in either a formal or informal manner, these two share...

Body Shaming

Image
What Does it Mean to Body Shame? Image by   Team Cafe Counsel via Cafe Counsel       The planet Earth is filled with various forms of life that are all unique in appearance. One of the most unique and diverse species on this planet is mankind. Every human body is made up of the same elements with the same organs, bone structures, nerves, etc. However, every human being has different external features like skin color, height, weight, and many more unique characteristics. These characteristics definitely do not define us but they are what sets us apart from one another. If we are all clearly nonidentical to one another, why do we feel the need to judge others who don't look like us? Why do we often attack someones physical appearance when we are angry, confused, or sad? The term body shaming is defined as judging or making degrading comments about someone's appearance. It is a form of bullying that everyone contributes to, even if we do not realize it...

Education in Prison and Correctional Facilities

Image
Why Should Prisons and Correctional Facilities Offer Better Educational Opportunities and Courses to Criminals?   Everyone views prisons and other facilities in some sort of way. Some see it as a way to keep delinquents and felons out of your neighborhoods and society in general. Others may see these facilities as a second chance to those who did wrong in their past. Ultimately, the people incarcerated in these buildings are all there to serve time for a crime they have committed. These people are stripped of most of their rights and are put away in cells for periods of time. Why not help prepare themselves for a better life when they are released? In some areas of the United States financial cuts are being made in prison making it more difficult to fund educational programs. However, there are many benefits to offering educational opportunities and courses to inmates. 1. Reduces the Chances of Ex-Prisoners Going Back To Prison   First of...
