Analyzing an Editorial Cartoon of Serena Williams

New Offensive Editorial Cartoon of Serena Williams  Image by Alex Pantling via GettyImages   A recent tennis match between one of the most well known and influential tennis players, Serena Williams, versus another upcoming player, Naomi Osaka, left viewers everywhere outraged and confused. After receiving  multiple penalties for William's performance, many of which she and a majority of people watching felt were unfair and uncalled for, Williams quickly voiced her frustrations to the game's umpire, Carlos Ramos. After going back and forth with Ramos, the penalties ultimately cost Williams a game. This was a major loss for Williams and she went on and  described her game experience as sexist and discriminatory . However, some people disagreed with Williams' comments and went on to mock and harass  her through social media. In order to survive, we have created multiple ways of communication to express what we need, how we feel, what we are thinking, etc. We went from drawing images onto cave walls to having access to cell phones and being able to talk to anyone in the world at anytime. There are two major types of communication, informal and formal. Formal communication is a way to speak with others in a professional manner. Whether you are speaking with a coworker or a professor, formal communication should be used to be respectful. Informal communication is the most commonly used and it is described as a casual way of speaking to others. An example of this would be using slang words with a friend or family member.
